Here's a lapbelt hanging out of an SE5a. Although I'm not well informed enough to say one way or the other in a lapbelt vs Sutton harness debate, I would say that I've never seen shoulder straps draped over the turtledecks of British aircraft like you do in photos of German ones.
Just my two-pennyworth Tony.

Seat Belts
In post 15 ..The 2 holes at each end are where the ropes fix that are then attached back to the frame or mounting plates .( Be2 series has a plate extension of the top transport joint plate , which is .104" thick with initially ,a 1/2" hole for, in this case 1/2" dia ropes ...The size may well have needed to be increased to the 1" size rope later .) Obviously all the small holes are for pilot size adjustement . JM
PS.. Tony ( Brez ) What part of the South are you from ?

Hi John,
Epsom, home of the Derby and the salts
I put up ''Beautiful South'' in response to Chock's ''Grim North'' and forgot all about it. I must remember to change it back to ''Surrey, England''
