The wing area is the same as the original tabloid... other than the last foot or so is chopped off the tip because I haven't put it in yet. The gross weight is about 910 lbs, empty weight 700.

Xplane derived the thrust from the data I put in... since this is the initial baseline... it is running off of the 80HP Gnome. So, using the original prop size combined with 80HP @1200rpm with a max level speed of 92mph and a prop speed of ...ummm... I think 515mph... (derived from a prop calculator designed for this) it came up with the full throttle thrust. It calculated the pitch of the prop automatically.

As I said before, I think the drag is understated. Straight and level at 1200rpm I am getting about 115mph IAS... which is too fast. There are things to play with to fine tune it to get it to perform similar to the original.

Starting to look like an airplane

Since the thread is about to fall off the page into oblivion... I thought I'd post a couple of update photos.

I think we are at the 90%/90% point... most of the work done, with most still to do.

All of the controls are hooked up. Need to start on the other systems: Engine, Fuel, electrical, & Covering.

Fuel tank is in... 17.9 gallons. Engine has completed its 10 hour break in with Valley and is ready for pick up...

Tab

Looking like a biplane... will you base it in Virginia when completed?

Also, will Bips & Zepps be back to VaBeach in '11?

Yes & Yes.

We plan to bring it east in the near future... and will finish it at the Warrenton EAA chapter hanger.

Jerry Yagen will be doing another WWI event at his place over Columbus Day Weekend, and plans to make it an annual event thereafter. He is now calling it Biplanes and Triplanes (our original suggestion btw).
