So i went to paint the landing gear assembly for my dviii project and i am not sure of the color. I need help with that. I uploaded a picture of what paint scheme i am going for. I have done two test colors and they aren't the right one. Can i get help on what color should be used?

Hey WorldWar1Fokker,

Here are some pictures of Achim's D VIII. They are by Ronny Bar. Of course they don't have your specific markings, but could help on the overall generic features.

If you mean specific colors, well good luck with that. They couldn't reproduce colors accurately in 1918 from uniform to uniform let alone dyes and paint colors. Just get close, that's all anyone can do.

Hope that helps.

Most metal components on Fokker (and many other German manufacturers') machines were painted with an anti-corrosion coating that, on surviving specimens, approximates RLM 02 (Green-grey) in tone. ................John

Thank you for the answer! I am not looking for exact colors at all. I just want a green thats somewhere in the ballpark. Im too embarrassed to even post my first test run of painting the landing gear!

Just if anyone has a little concoction of paint mix to make a good green color that'd be great

Hey WorldWar1Fokker,

You can find Olson's color reference at the hobby store. (If you're not a hobby shop frequenter, just ask at the counter. You'll have more choices of paint manufactures than you can believe. Buy the cheapest.) Buy an (overpriced) jar of paint in that color and have your paint supplier match a swatch painted on some primed scrap metal. It will be beautiful!

I live in Nassau county ny so that should be about 5 or 6 hours away. I would like to just get a general idea of the green since its been awhile since I've seen the color in person. Who'd you get the epoxy from? Would you be willing to give or sell me a small sample of the color for reference?

Thanks for the reply
Cliff
