Wouldn't it be possible to spin the cowls longer than used on the pup etc, & then trim them to suit ?.
I seem to remember this being done some time ago, by some one who's details ellude me.

Ally' sheet size availability ,.... which controls the max. possible dia. of disc available for use as a spinning blank ,..... may be the limiting factor .

Must admit, I hadn't thought about that one .
Just seem to remember some one doing it many years ago, might have been some one here in the UK, from memory they were spun for a Camel or possibly a Nieuport project, the guy had several spun to the correct diameter, but were made longer than standard, so that buyers could trim them to their own requirements.

Last Chance

Get your cowlings before they are all gone! Rick does fine work. Even if you don't have a plane, they make excellent coffee tables. You know you want one.

and if you are wondering how they are made

Here is a video on how they make them in Kansas City...

Spinning Engine Cowlings for WWI Aircraft - YouTube

I lifted this from a power point presentation put together by Bob Punch... I think he did a great job.
