Eleven Months to freedom comments

I just got hold of the book "Eleven Months to Freedom a German POW's unlikely Escape From Siberia in 1915" by Dwight Messimer it was reviewed some years ago in OTF. it's about a German Naval aviator who escapes from Siberia

It has the names of the crew of the airship PL-19:
ObltnzS Ernst Meier Captain
LtnzS Herman Rotsold, XO
Obersteuermann Herman Schack, chief engineer
Obmasschmt Ernst Lehmann, second engineer
Maschinisten-Maat Wilhelm Gissov
Rev Dr Otto Roetzell a Lutheran Minister who was just along for the ride.

Also seek wiki on the PL-19

CGAS does not give the full list of the crew and has the Captain as Joesf
Meier

As for the 3 men who escaped with him

Obltn Eberhard Bruno a Grenadier officer
Ltn Kurt Cleinow a observer of FFA 35 shot down by ground fire and captured on3 Oct 1914 his pilot Obltn Kar Lau POW/DOI
Obmasschmt Ernst Lehmann

who tried to get back to Germany by going west through Sweden and didn't make it. Let's just say they had to go through some very heavy security to get to Sweden based on the book The Northern Underground by Michael Futrell also the Corps of Gendarmes which guarded the railroads and borders ect were a fairly efficient for the time force. There was also a lot of spy mania going on in the Russian empire and elsewhere in WW I. Read John Daly books "Autocracy Under Siege" and "The Watchfull State" for more on the Corps of Gendarmes
