The ultimate in realism...

Something that I've always been curious about... Considering how those of us who love our replica war birds continually strive toward the utmost in accuracy and realism with regards to our AC... Has anyone ever heard of someone going that extra step and mounting "live" weapons on their replica AC??? Talk about "the ultimate in realism!"

Hello gipsymoth,

They certainly look real, to be sure... But are they "functional", and are they mounted in an aircraft?

Does anyone use simulated fire propane MGs on their Replica aircraft?

Happy Landings!

I would imagine that in the film industry they do (use simulated fire propane MGs on their Replica aircraft). I'm wondering if any "private individuals/collectors" use the "real thing"... When you come right down to it, a "propane gun" is not going to give you (the pilot) the same "feel" as a real firearm would.

G'Day Guys

This link may be of interest. The article on the second page shows a fellow who built his own gas powered guns.

I am not sure if I would feel comfortable but it seemed to work for him

Von Reichel,
I agree. The real McCoy would feel and look better than a simulated propane replica MG. However, not everyone can find/afford a real MG appropriate to their aeroplane, and there is the added expense of a Class III license as well. I was just wondering if any pilots are using a sim fire arrangement.

The Historic Aircraft Restoration Museum ( http://www.historicaircraftrestorationmuseum.org/ ) in St. Louis has a Sopwith Pup replica with an 80 LeRhone engine and a working and I believe synchronized Vickers machine gun. When it flies by firing the gun empty brass shells land in front of you. It's only firing blanks of course, but could fire the real thing.

I always wanted a ring mount in the roof of my van- Lewis's, Parabellum- doesn't matter. A passenger could really do some intimidation during quitin' time freeway driving.
