Your Hero and Mine

I've started another hero portrait. This one is of my all-time favorite aviation hero, perhaps he's your hero, too... Cole Palen.

Have started out with acrylics as an underpainting on 40 x 60"(?) tightly-woven awning canvas and am about halfway to the finished stage. During the final stage, I'll overpaint the whole thing in oils to achieve best blending and richest colors possible. Final dimensions after stretching will be 36 x 48".

50% stage:

My Gallery
Thanks guys. Might be a few days before I can get back to this one as I have a dozen unfinished paintings in the works and the Nungesser with Spad and Nieuport is at the head of the line to be completed. Am gearing up for my gallery grand opening on October 21 & 22 (with wine tasting, hors d'ouvres and jazz). On November 18 & 19, I'll have another reception and the focus will be on "Aeroplanes, Aviators & Aviatrices". Am hoping two or three guest aviation artists might be able to to come hang two or three of their works for the show. Robert Karr said he might come up. Counting on you, Robert - got your name in my advertising. Anyone else care to join us on the west coast?

I'd come, but its kind of a long haul from North Carolina.

Not sure how you're getting in tonight, Greg, but when I enter Roseville into the info on the Fandango site it says it's not available 'til Sept 22. Well, you and Lisa have a super time! Guess I'll just have to wait another week and see it when it hits a theater a bit closer to me.

Thanks for the compliment. The Cole Palen painting and others are coming along. C'mon down and see them in person at my studio/gallery on Oct 21 & 22 for the grand opening/reception. Or come on November 18 & 19 for the aviation show and reception. I should have two or three guest aviation artists to join me then with some of their works on the walls.

Thumbs up

These are looking really great, M! I like the way you photographed them set up in your studio...nice to see them this way.

Keep the raw emotion going and the paint wet!
