I looked at Franz Büchners score again and discovered he has (at least) 12 US-Americans too. So he can share the position with von Hantelmann (before future research brings more info to light).

Thanks, Scotty!

So we have still to look for the top scorers against the Belgian and Russian Air Services.

I think I recall we had the top scorer in Russia mentioned in the past on the Forum - and it was a twoseater crew! ???

While I do not have access to all the data you gentlemen are quoting I may venture an interesting comparison to WWII.
It seems to me that the Western Front is where the highest quality opponents flew and fought against each other. Some of the best Russians were even sent to France to learn.
The Austrians and the Italians had their vicious fighting over the Alps but the Russian front seems to have been somewhat of a backwater of the fighters, mainly for lack of Russian opposition, but also the different character of warfare, far more mobile then the entrenched Western Front.
In the next war...the Russian front was a German fighter's pilot heaven with the aces scoring up hundreds of "easy pray" Russians...while the Western Front was somewhat dangerous with the well trained and equipped Britons and Americans.
The conclusion would be that during the Great War "German acedom" was achieved against the highest quality opponent available, thereby making MvR perhaps more "credible" then the likes of Hartmann and company? Whereas the British, French and Americans each time had to face the best that Germany had to offer...did I stirr a hornet's nest here?....Artur
