Dear Sirs,

Help required please on three 218(B) Squadron pilots who claimed aerial victories with the squadron. Require if possible, dates, type of a/c and additional info.

Capt Mc.Laren DFC & Bar 2 victories (?)
Capt Chisholm DFC 3 victories
Capt Cleghorn DFC 3 victories

Also could anyone please explain how Capt Chrisholm was shot down and killed. I have two Chisholms on the squadron, Capt J.F Chisholm missing 26th September 1918, and a Lieut R.J.Chisholm killed 14.05.1918.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Smudger,

Lt HD McLaren and Sgt D Barlow in DH9 E8881 attacked 7 ha over Cortemarck at 17.50 on 28/9/18.

Fokker Dr1 shot down in flames and another claimed as Out of Control. The DH9 was badly shot up and Barlow was wounded in the encounter.

Capt JF Chisholm & gunlayer Sgt RJ Williams in DH9 C6250 claimed a yellow Pfalz DIII driven down at 18.15 on 5/7/18, and an Albatros DV down in the sea at 07.10 on 14/7/18. (driven down is not really accepted as a victory)

Also in DH9 D3271 claimed a Fokker DVII out of cotrol at Bruges at 09.20 on 20/9/18. The engine was hit by AA after bombing Bruges docks on 26/9/18, and Chisholf made a forced landing in Holland. He and Williams were interned.

Capt WF Cleghorn & 2Lt GJL Potts in DH9 C1206 claimed a yellow 2-seater in flames at 18.25 on 5/7/18.

Cleghorn & 2Lt FH Stringer were killed and POW respectively on 2/10/18 in DH9 E8958. They were lost when dropping rations at Stadnburg.

Can't find any record of 3 victories.

Smudger,

I've found a number of other claims for 218, and a partial roster of pilots and gun layers which I will post on to you.

Like you said in you other thread - quite a few Americans, both pilot and gun layers - seem to have been "attached" rather than members of the RAF.
