Another concern:

If possible, donate items on long-term loan with right to recall. Joe Foss outright gifted some items to NASM but regretted it after the 1994-95 Enola Gay flail.

His material disappeared for years and finally fetched up at the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico. Nobody seemed to know how that happened...
You will not rise to the occasion: You will default to your level of training.

Agreed, there have been similar high-profile events in Germany with museums 'losing' items for long periods of time, or items being pilfered by staff. On a personal note, my grandmother's Order of Merit of West Germany was stolen from a display, but I was fortunate to be able to save the award document.

Mes amis

I am so saddened to learn of the death of Frank Olynyk. He was an irrepressible man of research determined to find the truth about each and every pilot, from each and every country, who became an ace ... as well as those who made false claims. Frank was a remarkable resource of information.

That Frank could work relentlessly to compile data yet be considerate to others as well revealed the wonderful character of our inspiring colleague. He offered personal support as I struggled to write a book about Vietnamese aces and bought a copy of the work. Some time later when, in passing, I noted that an expanded edition of the book had been made available through Amazon Frank related "I noticed that and saw that there were more pages in that edition so ordered a copy" ... I would have had one sent to him ... but his need to find all the information possible and his desire to support writers on the subject of aces from anywhere in the world knew no bounds.

My Sympathy To All Who Knew And Loved Him

I just read about the loss of Frank Olynyk and I'm shocked and very sad. He, was a excellent historian and he was always very helpful.

Winfried Bock and I appreciated the cooperation with him when I worked on the Jasta 23 book. His contribution was very important, but over all he was a great person. He left a gap and we all will miss him.
