Please excuse my excitement, but I just picked up AIRFIELDS AND AIRMEN YPRES by Mike O'Connor (Leo Cooper, Pen & Sword Books Limited, Battlegroud Europe series, 2001) at $16.95 (or 9.95 Sterling)-- I SIMPLY CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK HIGHLY ENOUGH!!!
It's readable, informative, very well laid out, and the photos are of excellent quality. There's even a photo of Hawker's Bristol Scout with the Lewis gun mounted diagonally from the cockpit; and when you see the photos of Voss by his triplane, you'll say that the cowling had to be either black or deep red-- the point is, the reproductions are THAT good!
And the text is a pleasure to read; the structure is of a tour of the actual battlefields, with "then and now" photos throughout.
Now, you'll have to excuse me, for the book also tells of the possible gravesite of Mannock, and since his great-grandniece just signed the guestbook, I thought that she should know and have the details...
A worthy addition to any library, it's THAT good! (I'm sorry, but one of the pitfalls of understatement is repetition).

I'm sure you will be interested to know that this book is
the first of a proposed series of six covering the main areas
of WW1 aerial operations. Book two covering the Somme
has just been published her in the UK while book three will
cover the Cambrai battles
