MvR's death certificate found

Stuffed in a file in Poland.

Associated Press: Historian finds Red Baron's death certificate

Can't tell from the image when the certificate was filed.

MvR Medical Examination. It also has eyewitness reports. Of course, every man and his dog was there and saw what happened. Some reports from some KNOWN to be there. Make what you will from it.

A rain of death bespattered him

Very interesting.
The description of every machine gun, rifle, pistol and blunderbuss opening up on von R. at low altitude must have meant 425/17 was hit more than once.
Sorry to beat a dead horse.
Let's not have a firefight on this one!! Pleeze...
I thought the description "A rain of death bespattered him" was just too colorful to not mention.

Looks like 26 August 1918.
Information came from commander of FEA 9.

Well, now the death is actually "official." I am very hopeful that in time more bits and pieces of documentation of MvR's life will surface.

You might ask: why was this document stored in Ostrowo?

The reason is: Ostrowo was the garrison of Manfred's Uhlans Regiment. And - as every resident in Germany has to be registered, Lt. von Richthofen had his official residence in this place.

But I learned two things from this document: The link between JG 1 and FEA 9 and - von Richthofen was evangelic.

What was the nature of the link between JG 1 and FEA 9?

FEA 9 (Darmstadt) was the 'Ersatztruppenteil' (replacement unit) for JG 1 ... weren't the Jasta 4, 6, 10 and 11 pilots to fly their planes to Darmstadt in the November 1918? [sorry, I just haven't got Bodenschatz' book to find the reference].

I think, the FEAs at home had more administrational influence on the front-line-units than we are aware of.
