Spandau Replica and Fokker DVII and assorted bits

Just a free hour or two on the CNC lathe. This is Op2 of 3 for this part. Op2 bores the back end and OD threads the rear end. OP3 will be machining the recoil booster slots just ahead of the threads and the wrench flats at the base of the cone.

Very nice. Metal work is a black art to me, can you post photos of the work in progress?

Work in progress

Butch,

Some threads I posted in the past show some of the work in progress. I'll try in the next few weeks to post 1 or 2 in progress shots. It might be better if I try to do a short video and post a link to Vimeo or Youtube.

Thanks for looking.

Tony

Hey redbaron1917,

Are those steel, for the real deal; or aluminum, for a replica?

Aluminum for strictly replicas. The BATF takes a dim view otherwise since 1986.

More progress more pics

Ok all. Here is the exhaust shell part of the recoil booster. This is OP1. OP2 will be to face the rear to length and ID thread the rear. OP3 will be to mill the wrench flats. Starts as a 1.3 pound chunk of aluminum. After OP1 it weighs exactly 2 ounces! It will only loose a slight bit on the finishing OPs.

I held the muzzle up in close proximity in one pic.

It is late or shall I say early ( 1:30am) and I have Reserve drill this weekend, so I may not reply for about a day.

More parts and pics Round 1

Another productive day, sorta Took 6 hours to program, edit, re-edit and fine tune the programs for the bushing. It is the middle pice of the three and ties all of them together.

Have the muzzle, recoil booster and exhaust bushing programmed and proofed. Just have to cut slots in the muzzle in the mid portion and the bushing. Then all 3 parts need wrench flats milled.

Good night to all the owls and good morning to everyone across both ponds!

More parts and pics round 2

Just a few more pics.

Tony

PS These parts are machined to several sources and other than internal threads are very faithful dimensionally. They are aluminum for several reasons. Not being easily substituted for real parts keeps them legal , lighter weight (important as most of us aren't 5'3" and 140 pounds! ) and easier to machine.
