Over The Front (OTF) Announcement

The League of WW1 Aviation Historians is preparing to go digital.

This will be in tandem with print copies of Over The Front (OTF) Journal and is not going to replace the printed journal.

What this means:
Current and new members can receive the current (2022) and future editions of OTF in pdf format along with their printed copies at no additional cost.

An informational link will be posted soon to the League’s website on how to obtain copies

The entire run of OTF will in the next 2-4 months be available digitally.

We are currently having 76 issues of OTF professionally digitized following FADGI guidelines.

72 copies of OTF which are already in a pdf format are currently being processed and compiled; this should be done in the next month.

Each year will be compiled as a single pdf document for ease of distribution.

All of the pdf copies of OTF will be word searchable.

The digitized pdf copies of the earlier journals will available for purchase through the League’s website.

Part 2

Additionally, as we’re trying to boost membership an offer to provide to the first 10-15 people (who are not already members) replying a free single journal print copy of OTF (this would be via private message on the Aerodrome to me) and to individuals overseas the first 10-15 people replying a free digitized journal copy of OTF (this would be via private message on the Aerodrome to me) or via the membership contact portal https://www.overthefront.com/contact/problems requesting their copies.

Lastly due to COVID the mailing of OTF journals to Australia and New Zealand since 2021 has been severely impacted. Any League member in these locations is entitled to free pdf copies of OTF they did not receive by contacting us through the membership contact portal https://www.overthefront.com/contact/problems requesting their copies.

Super nice! I am European and delays to receive anything were HUGE in the past (so now at least digital copies will arrive quickly), that'll be an incentive to consider membership.
Hope that digitalized back issues will be available in digital (i.e., w/out printed) versions (at least the old ones).
Thanks for these infos CjB!

Over The Front Is Going Digital

For those members who are overseas (from the perspective of the US) we're sorry about the long wait or missing copies... the mail services have been greatly impacted by a variety of factors...

That said we are able to provide you with, at no additional cost if you have a valid subscription/membership, a pdf copy of the Over The Front journal for 2022, which includes the Winter 2022 issue.

To obtain your copy please email the League via the link below... please specify the issues you are missing and we will contact you with instructions on how to download your copy or copies

https://www.overthefront.com/contact/problems

************************************************** **********
Over The Front Is Going Digital

We are in the process of having all back issues of Over the Front converted to PDF format. These are being scanned at high resolution (400 dpi) and will be OCRed to allow you to do text searches on them. Starting with Volume 38, all subscribers will continue to get the bound issues, and as soon as we have a finished PDF of that issue it will be available for download. Active subscribers will receive a password to access the current year’s PDF downloads. We do not plan to offer digital-only... Single back issues* will continue to be available as paper copies (while supplies last), but each complete back volume** will be furnished only as a single PDF. We expect pricing for the back volumes to be similar to the current pricing for back volumes of Cross and Cockade (USA), which will also move to a downloadable PDF format. There will also be an adjustment to the current prices of individual back issues to accommodate ever-increasing postage costs while keeping the price of four printed issues close to the current price for a printed volume so members who wish to backfill their collections of OTF with printed volumes rather than PDFs may continue to do so.

PDFs will be downloadable as ZIP compressed files; on extraction you will have a self-contained PDF-A file with the full issues, including images. When you order a back volume, you will be sent a link and password (tied to your email address) where you may download your purchase. This link will expire after 30 days.

We appreciate your support and ask that you not share these downloads, in order that we may remain solvent.

* An Issue is the quarterly (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) individually-bound publication you receive.

** A Volume is one complete year (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter Issues) of Over the Front.
