Most of us are familar with the usual direction of discussion when Bishop is mentioned at this site. Although it is of no consequence, my opinion of the WWI Bishop is middle-of-the road, there seems to be something on both sides of the controversy.

Can anyone describe the specific responsibilities Bishop was given as Vice Air Marshal in the second war? All that I recall on this is that he was involved with Air Force recruiting. Did the Allies attempt to involve Bishop in any way concerning combat strategy? Just curious.

Ahhh the usual juvenille retoric from GAS-o-philes.

Anyhow Recruitment was the job and apparently he did it well...

"When World War II broke out the Canadian government approached Bishop with an enticing offer. Air Marshal in charge of recruitment. They used his glamour as Canada's premier ace of WWI to draw recruits into the air force. He attacked the job with energy to spare, he was a tireless campaigner for recruiting, being so successful that the airforce turned applicants away. He helped to sell war bonds, conducted many inspection tours and tried to show up at every graduation day to pin on the wings for new pilots. He was fun loving, sometimes to extreme. A few inspections were cancelled due to parties and drunkenness."

I'm guessing his sole job was recruitment.

Cory,
Are you that unfamiliar with "juvenile rhetoric"? Seems to take up considerable space in your quiver, if memory serves me.

No trolling here, lad. Just pointing out a little hypocrisy. All in a day's work . .

Bully for Billy in WW2. I still don't think we have any real reason to believe that everything he claimed to do in WW1 actually transpired. We only have his word for most of it, and good or not, that's not enough for the history books. But he did his part - arguably a much bigger part - when it really counted. So, good for Billy!

Kory,

You obviously have issues being from a third world country. Angry, hostle, and bitter is no way to go thru life. Look on the bright side, every penny you make after October 28th is all yours to keep!

Regards from a kinder and gentler,
