I've just received word that September 30th thru October 2nd has been set for the 2005 Dawn Patrol Rendezvous.
Held on the grounds of the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH., this is a fantastic event for the WW1 aviation buff. Full scale (and nearly so) flying replicas, large scale WW1 RC , re-enactors, vendors and more.
I have heard that this years event is being moved from the front grounds, to the back of the museum. This is due primarily to concern over the growth of trees out front. Sounds like it'll be nice to have fewer obstructions, more room, and a smoother grass surface for both the full size and RC. The down side is that it's farther away from the museum.
I was there as an RC participant in 2003. Wow! What a great time. How often do you get to see three full size Dr1s flying? And two with original LeRhones. Talk about a unique sound.
I've got pictures of the RC part at 2003 Dawn Patrol Rendezvous
Pictures of some of the full scale aircraft, etc.

Hi Mike,
It's a go for me! There'll be quite a few of us forumites there. We'll have to figure out a place to go afterwards, and decide on who's buying. I've been to every event since '96, the trip's worth it every time.
The back field is where the Scalemasters have been held, right? Should work out OK. Maybe we can actually pitch tents and keep out of the sun, although the weather should be nice at that time (although in '98, it was hotter in Dayton than in Tampa!)

You all might consider joining the Friends Of the USAF Museum.

Dpr 2005
Lyle,
Not sure if it's going to be where the Scalemasters are held, but probably so. Was there grass in that area too? 2003 was my first time to attend, and it sure was hot then too. Not being able to toss up the shelter sucked, but maybe we'll be allowed to now.
I got to get to glueing balsa pretty damn soon if I hope to have the my SSWD1 ready.

I've got it marked on my calendar. I was there last year and you can bet I'll be there next year come hell or high water. Does anyone know if OTF is planning its forum to preceed the GWAA Fly-In?

Will there be or has there been a Dawn Patrol Rendevous this year? Or is this a bi-annual event?

Dawn Patrol Rendezvous 2005
Bruno,
It is Bi-Annually.
There is a WW1 fly-in this weekend at Hamilton Co. IN . (Just N of Indy) See http://www.hamiltoncountyrc.org/news.html . It's hard to say, but this looks like it may be well attended (not to the level of DPR though). There are guys coming from at least as far as Arkansas. I'll be there!

Thanks Lucky Dog. I'll definitely keep that date open next year. It sounds as if it will be held where the D.O.G.S. event is held.
The Hamiton County event sounds good, but it's a bad weekend for me. I'll watch here and your website (nice BTW) for more events.

Hey Mike,
I think there's both tarmac and grass on the south side of the museum, but as I recall, they used the runways for operations at Scalemasters and some models smacked the lights on the runway edges, so we'll have to watch it if we're using that.
Should be fun! Get back to that workbench. I need to do the same...lazy modeler that I am.

Lyle,
I can't imagine Dean making us fly off of a hard surface. Hope there's grass to be had (of the sod variety)
