To meet or not to meet? That is the question.

Good idea or bad idea to have a first annual The Aerodrome weekend? If you say yes, add your thoughts as to When, Where, What, etc. My thoughts:

YES!
When: Next summer, some weekend Friday-Sunday late July - September
Where: Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome (if back in proper hands) during Modelers or Artists weekend or in Reno, NV during the annual Air Races.
What: Models, Artists, WWI collectors bring your wares to show/share/sell;
Authors bring your books to sign, photographers bring your photos to share on a big screen.

What else?

An The Aerodrome weekend or meeting ? No way ! And take the risk to meet some of these great guys and girls from the Forum ? Can not be !

Books, flying models, would be great, and perhaps a little seminary ? Some militaria on the period ? I would bring along my Russian officers silver pilot badge for example. Everybody bringing along some photo's from WW I, making exchanges of material, hell we might even have a drink together

Of course the question is : should we have a European and an American location ? Two places is always better then one, gives us a better excuse to do two trips in one year !

And where should we do it in Europe : Belgium, Germany, England ? Perhaps a combination with a museum is also possible ?

Ah so many dreams. But if anyone is willing to do something here in Europe I'm willing to give it a hand. After all I did run a event business in the past.

Hey ! Great idea ! Thanks !

Oh ! Didnt know our collegues were that shy !

Ok, let's make it a proposition ladies and gentlemen for what concerns the old continent : somewhere in Germany, on a location that offers us something to see on WW I aviation.

What do you think ?

Best from Johan

You are at it again.

HI Cadet Leader,
You know, watching you run around inside this forum and reading the things you posts, has me convinced that you are an energetic lady. If you keep creating topics and threads, you may just become the honorary, "Mom," of this forum. Dont' let this comment deter you in anyway, it is a compliment.

The idea of an Aerodrome get together is most interesting. Not that either of you locations aren't good places, but they are on one side of the continent and the other. So, I suggest possibly, Oshkosh during the air show. It is more centrally located to the whole US. Owing to my love of Olde Rhinebeck Aerodrome, I think that would be the most ideal location, but we all know why that would not be satisfactory at this time (for those who don't know, see the Rhinebeck Aerodrome Trouble thread).

I don't know anything about the Oshkosh area and what would make a suitable location to hold such a meet. But, I am sure there are plenty of members here who do, and can start giving input.

Painters, Modelers, Writers, Photographers and all manner of pioneer and WWI aviation enthusiats, what a shindig that could be. Just like ORA but, with all those folks in the same place at the same time. Unfortunately, we won't have the privilege of seeing a real Cole Palen inspired air show.

Keep up the fervor here, Cadet Leader. And, count me in.

Clear skies and warm air to ya,

Salute!

My Gallery
tazbat,
Thanks for that.
From,
Yo Mama

P.S. Oshkosh, though not an intimate setting like ORA, is a great idea with much potential if increased members for theaerodrome is one of the goals. I've been there 13 different years from 1978 - '92.

Oshkosh has tons of aviation groups and vendors that have their annual banquets or less formal get-togethers in any one of many of the restaurants in town. Our AAC (Air Adventurers Club) used to have a casual annual outing for our get-togethers in 1988 - '92. We'd (@ a dozen of us) start out at the base of the control tower at Oshkosh and then take a couple of taxis to the Rootbeer Drive-In, then to the nearby seaplane base. Those were a lot of fun.

With advance reservation and a plan we can also get free use for an hour or so in one of the six forum tents they have all set up with chairs, audio/visual systems and eager audiences.

Before we get too carried away and spend four days and three pages here like we did trying to buy a Jenny , we should get a general consensus on whether or not more of us would like to meet at all, and then submit the idea to our fearless leader, Mr. Admin.

It's not the first time this has come up. There is no way my child bride would unleash me on my first visit to the US without her unless I bring the boys and get them out from under her feet. And there's no way the boys will come unless it's held at Disney World

I think PeterL, you have a unique opportunity to do both. The true decision may turn out to be which to do first. I would gamble on Disney World.

I didn't know the Jenny deal was dead. I am still waiting for some feedback from a source on some good appraisers and a response from Ken Cassen. I have been in need of a little more incentive to spend the money to go to Oshkosh, not that Oshkosh isn't worthy.

Salute!

Now that I think of it, if the get together is in either Monument Valley, or Yellowstone National Park, Lefki might well come herself. In fact, she might even leave me behind.

Let's not re-invent the wheel here. I imagine a lot of us - stateside, anyway - are already planning to be at Dawn Patrol Rendezvous next year. I'll probably only make it for a day, but I'll be there. I was thinking about it last week, actually, and was wondering if we shouldn't all purchase some nice t-shirts from Scott (perhaps he'd get some made up special?) so we'd recognize each other. Across a crowded airstrip, we'll spy a fellow Forumite, rush right over and ask "Who are you? Tazbat? Peter? AAC?"

Maybe we should add nametags.

Anyways, this isn't as structured a thing as you're proposing, but I can't think of a better venue, and all the planning is already done. All we have to do is show up and announce ourselves.

Dawn Patrol would be ideal

I think the Rendezvous next September is an ideal venue for something like this...great museum, great flying activities, large metro area with sufficient amenities, etc. At DP 2003 I ran into a number of Forumites who were there for the Over the Front Seminar held concurrently at the Museum, so it's something to consider. And as suggested here, Rhinebeck might also be an ideal venue, if things indeed change in the management department there.

Nametags are such a good idea!

Lyle

PS: Welcome back Johan!
