Great Weekend, Indeed !
Was that ever a great fly-in! Best Dawn Patrol ever for the Hoosier State!
Thank you Steve, more than you will ever know. This has been a dream of mine for some time (to have an old time/ww1 event here in central Indiana).
Steve, your hard work and Matt's also, made it all possible.
Steve, I hope you enjoy all the pictures that Rhonda took. If you didn't receive them, give me a call and I will send them again. I think there were 4 discs that she made of the event.
I had three favorite flights of the weekend.
1. Bill White's Fok DVIII, Greg Emerick's Sopwith Pup and my Nieuport 17 all flying together......on a fly past, Bill was in front and high, I was in and under him and pretty close, then Greg came up from under and behind and started to put the squeeze on me......wow. They looked great all bunched up and flying toward the sun!
2. Lee McDuffy flying Del Johson's DR 1 and me flying my N-17......we did several loops following each other through 5 or six times, some formation type stuff, lots of fly bys, rolls, split s's. Really enjoyable for me from a pilot's point of view.
1 & 2 were all quarter scale planes.
3. My favorite flight! Billy Thompson's 1/3 scale Sopwith Pup, Dale Locander's 1/3 scale Foklker DVII and my 1/3 scale Fokker Eindecker EI.....all in the air at the same time......BIGGER THAN BIG! they took up a lot of sky!
And for me, a step toward fulfilling my goal of 1/3 scale planes filling the air for most of the fly-in. Maybe some day.
