WWI Dogfight at Geneseo, N.Y. for 2007?
There are several WWI aircraft on the "tentative" list for the Geneseo Airshow, on July 14-15. Does anyone know if any of these are confirmed yet?
Fred Murrin's triplane is also on the list, but I've heard rumors that it was recently heavily damaged. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks.
Regards,
Steve

spandau,
Unfortunately you are correct, it seems the Triplane was badly damaged. Here is the link, http://www.cherokee140.com/Fokker/.
I am in Rochester and attend the show almost every year. It is always very good and last year had a number of WW1 planes on the flight line along with the same cast of characters they always have for the planes of later periods.
I checked the Geneseo website, they state 7 planes are coming in from the Great War Flying Museum and they did list Fred's triplane. The website is, http://www.1941hag.org/files_airshow..._aircraft.html.

Steve and Phil,
I'm one of the pilots from the GWFM and I can confirm that we'll be at Geneseo with at least 6 and hopefully all 7 of our aircraft. We're unsure as to whether the SE5 will be ready because it is currently undergoing some major maintenance.
Look forward to seeing everyone at the show. If you get the chance be sure to stop by the GWFM aircraft and introduce yourself.
Thats certainly sad news about Fred's triplane. When I saw it last year it was a thing of beauty. Hopefully the post is correct and Fred wasn't too badly hurt.
Sincerely
Edward

Edward,
I have an update for you. I was in contact with Fred on an unrelated issue and asked him about the triplane. He said the news of it's demise was not true. The damage was minor and that it would fly again. He still will not be attending the show though.
With regard to you and your great crew from the north, remember 7 is a lucky number! I will make sure to stop by and introduce myself. I was also planning to get up to your home field this summer as I have not been there in years. Either way, I'll make sure to look for you, is there any day or time that is better, I don't know how busy you guys will be doing show presentations and such.
Phil

Hello Phil,
Thank you for the good news about Fred Murrin and his triplane. Very happy to know that he and the Tripe will fly again.
Best regards,

Phil,
I just noted the large gap in communications re the GWFM.
We are open weekends during the summer but rarely before 11am. Tuesday and Thursday are work days for the crew with Thursday being the best day to come by specifically late in the afternoon.
Weather permiting, we fly on Sundays unless the a/c are working that weekend. At this time our next away show is Geneseo so the upcomnig weekends would be good.
Contact me if you plan on coming by, we want to ensure that you have a good visit.
Regards,
John

John,
Thanks for the note. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys in Geneseo. When I get the family up to your neck of the woods, I'll send over a PM.
One question, when I saw you guys at Friendly Foes a few weeks ago the show you put on was much higher than the passes made by the WW2 machines. What there a reason for this,... safety, regulations or something else?? I couldn't get any good pictures of you guys in action with my crappy camera.
Phil

I just returned from the Geneseo show and I had a great time. The planes were great and Jim Hare did a fine job announcing. Unfortunately one of the WW1 replicas crashed Friday evening, so it was unavailable for the weekend. The pilot is unhurt, but I'm afraid the Fokker DVII from the Great War Flying Museum will require some rebuilding.
I'll post some pics as soon as I can go through them all.
The high point for me was the collection of liaison aircraft and the De Haviland group...Especially the Prince's Fox Moth! What a beauty...and how about that Curtiss Robin? Wow!
John
I just read the post about Fred Murrin and the Camel...My hopes go with him and his family! A speedy recovery for both man and machine!

I attend the Geneseo Airshow on Sat. Go there early, the weather was perfect, sunshine and cool temps. There was a great collection of aircraft, most were in very good condition and it is always great to see them flying.
I really like this picture
