Southern Dawn Patrol R/C Scale Fly in
The sanction application was mailed today, the field is reserved, so the fun begins.
We will be working up a flyer in the next couple weeks, but as of now the basics are.
SOUTHERN DAWN PATROL
Sponsored by the Chipola R/C Aviators, Marianna, FL.
Dates: December 5-6, 2008
Location: Hodges Hobbies, Andersonville, GA www.hodgeshobbies.com
Format: Fly In (maybe a couple optional fun events)
Qualified aircraft: All R/C WW I warbird replicas.
Landing fee $15.00
If you have never been to the Hodges Hobbies flying field, it is a fabulous LARGE grass field (Tifton Bermuda, ala golf fairway) with acres and acres of open area. Additionally Hodges Hobbies, one of the best hobby shops in the south, is right on the field with a covered porch and rocking chairs to watch the action.
Large closed building and a very large open metal shelter for overnight storage.
There are several R/V hookups with electric and water right on the flight line and plenty of space for other camping. (Call to reserve R/V hookups-$15/night) There are a list of motels on the Hodges Hobbies website.
All you WW I R/C guys, mark your calendars.

Moving along.
AMA saction is official and we are starting to get sponsors coming aboard.
Here is a link to an event website. It is a little sparse right now, but will updated periodically.

Our list of sponsors for this event is growing. Balsa USA has come on board generously supplying a certificate for a 1/4 scale WW I kit of choice.
Due to technical problems, they have not been added to the event website, but will be soon.
Please check the website for other sponsors.
Southern Dawn Patrol
If any of you would like to assist with sponsoring this event, please contact me. Our goal is to provide a great experience for the participants. All proceeds over actual hard, out of pocket costs will be returned to the participants in some form.

The list of sponsors for Southern Dawn Patrol continues to climb. Horizon Hobby has come on board and will be providing merchandise from Hangar 9, JR, or SPEKTRUM. Ah, the suspense.
Also a week or so ago, The Aeroplane Factory has come on board with a certificate for any kit they cut up to $450.
Continue to check the website for new sponsors and updates. All of the sponsors have hotlinks on the SPONSORS page.
Please support them, and tell them thanks for their support.

We have added a list on the website of planned attendees at Southern Dawn Patrol.
If you are planning to attend and would like to be added to this list, please send me your name, state, and information on planes you plan to bring.

Only a few weeks now until SDP.
It has been decided that we will hold 2 voluntary fun events. One Friday and one Saturday. They are planned to be safe for planes and to last no more than an hour each day. Prizes will be awarded.
What are the events? Oh, I can't tell you that, they're a secret! Let's just say they will fit with the WW I period.
On another note, if I haven't mentioned this already, Mac has a large closed in building that many models can be stored in at night, plus a very large metal open side shed as well.

Just thought I would give those planning to attend a good address to Mapquest, or put into your GPS to help find Hodges Hobbies.
428 Neil Hodges Rd., Andersonville, GA
Once you get on Hwy 49 between Americus and Andersonville, the only tricky part is locating Freeman Road to turn off Hwy 49. Coming from Americus, it is just under 2 miles past the entrance to Souther Field Airport, and 3/4 miles past the intersection of 49 and Southerfield Rd/ New Era Rd. This is a pretty big intersection.
From Andersonville, it is a little over 5 1/2 miles from the entrance to the Civil War Cememtary Memorial. From this direction, Freeman Road is just over a hill to the left so keep your eyes open.
There is a Hodges Hobbies sign there and we will try to put up a couple of event signs as well.
See ya there.
