Hi Martha, thanks for the endorsement!

Yes, we are putting on a fly in on the eastern shore of Virginia... We've had lots of folks express interest in participating. In the next few days we hope to have our web page up and running, which will better describe what we hope to have there.

Larry Botsford is hoping to bring his Early Bird Jenny (painted in USN markings), the Chesapeake AIM School WWI project team is planning to bring their N-24 project, Russell Smith has offered a print for us to raffle, and Richard Groh has also graciously offered prints. Several folks who are working on projects are planning to come. And there are other things cooking that we'll announce over the next few weeks.

It should be a great time and we hope to see some of you there!

The powerlines are there, but well marked and easy enough to avoid for the vast majority of folks who use this field.

The field is firm, dry, and fairly smooth and wide. It is remote which is both a curse and a blessing.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you on 13 Sept!

Hi, just an update on our event.

We've added several more folks who plan to participate. I've noticed that most people who look at our webpage are not looking at the page that lists participants... so... I've moved the page and renamed it... now it is called "Who will be here"... and is moved out into the main tabs...

so... please come back and check out the site again! Every day I'm adding new participants!

It was a great event!

Wow, what a weekend! The weather was forecast to be rainy & windy & hot... well, it was hot and a little windy, but no rain.

Participation and turn out was good. Saturday attendence was a little light, but Sunday saw a lot of folks coming through.

We'd like to thank all of those who helped us put this event on
  • Russell Smith - donated prints
  • Richard Groh - donated prints
  • John Gaertner of Blue Swallow Aircraft - AVRO 504 display and lecture
  • Aviation Insitute of Maintenance - N-24 replica project
  • Rag Bag Aero Works - T-shirts
  • Byrd Aviation Books
  • Kaarin Engleman - WWI board games
  • and others who brought photos, pieces and parts of their projects to share

And a special thanks to Gordon Campbell who graciously allowed us to use his airfield and facilities.

We've posted photos of the event on our webpage: Great War Aerodrome - WWI Fly-in

Please take a look and enjoy. If you happen to have photos of the event you'd like to share, send them to us at greatwaraerodrome@yahoo.com
