Warbirds over the Beach, 16-17 May 2009
Great War Aerodrome will be setting up a WWI section at Jerry Yagen's Warbirds over the Beach Fly in, 16-17 May 2009 in Virginia Beach, VA.
This should be a great event! There will be both WWI and WWII aircraft, reenactors, vendors, etc...
Check out the Great War Aerodrome Website for more information and links to The Fighter Factory and the Warbird Aviation Museum.
If you are interested in participating, let us know!
Thanks,
Rob Waring & Shelly Wells

Hi,
We just wanted to give an update on Warbirds over the Beach. This is shaping up to be a great event, especially if you enjoy aircraft of all types.
In addition to Jerry Yagen's fine collection of WWII aircraft, we expect to have several WWI aircraft in attendence. Of course... participation of these aircraft is dependent upon maintenance, weather, and a host of other factors that we have no control over.
Mr. Yagen is bringing his Fokker Triplane, Fokker D.VII, and Sopwith Pup replicas. We are planning to fly the Triplane during the show.
Roland Gilliam is planning on bringing his SE.5a and it should fly during the show too.
Larry Botsford is bringing his Beautiful Early Bird Jenny painted in USN markings and hopes to fly during the show.
We have several re-enactor groups who plan to attend... ranging from British Guards to Salvation Army... should be a nice display.
We are still interested in finding other folks to participate. If you have a plane, project, or are an artist, author, re-enactor... We want you to participate with us! Let us know how we can make this event work for you!

Hi Andrew,
It went very well despite the weather and such. We'll post some pictures later on tonight. We get to add "triplane assembler" to our resume's.
How was the stuff at the Lafayette Foundation?

Here are a few snapshots of the fly-in.
This first picture shows the basic layout of our WWI section. From left to right are the re-enactors, next come the large scale RC aircraft, then Mr. Yagen's Dr.I, Bill Drummond's 7/8 N-11, the Aim School N-24 and then Ragbag Aeroworks, our tent, Byrd Books, and Blue Swallow Aircraft.

This next photo is of the WWI re-enactor camp. The rubber barbed wire was a nice touch.

Here is a shot showing Bill Drummond's 7/8 N-11 and Mr. Yagen's "fresh from the rebuild shop" Dr. I.
The Dr. I happened to arrive Friday evening... on a truck, with some assembly required.

Here is another shot of Mr. Yagen's Dr.I. The engine is a 165 Warner.

Several shots of the Aim School N-24 project. It is has made good progress since our last fly-in in September 2008.
