2010 Blue Max

We are pleased to announce a new RC scale event, The Blue Max, which will be a sort of "Top Gun for World War One". Our website is: Home Page We also have a thread running on RC Scale Builder (RCScalebuilder.com/forum) under "upcoming scale events" should you be able to find time to look in. This will be a top level scale contest with four classes: 1) Scratch built models, 2) Kit built models, 3) Balsa USA class, and 4) ARF class with modifications allowed.

We have scheduled two days at Kermit Weeks Fantasy of Flight Museum in Polk City, Florida Fantasy of Flight, World's Greatest Aircraft Collection (midway between Orlando and Tampa) on the 12th and 13th of March 2010. The museum is providing a terrific flying venue, passes to the exhibits, local shuttle, and support for safety and flight line operations ( and, we expect, two days of gorgeous weather). Over 100 modellers have expressed interest in the event, including many of the more well known WW1 modelling competitors, and even a few from England. We expect very good attendance as Central Florida is already home to Top Gun, Florida Jets, Frank Tiano's Monster Scale event, Sun-n-Fun, Disney World, Busch Gardens, Daytona International Speedway, and a large number of very active RC clubs that sponsor scale events all "season". Based on the high level of interest, we anticipate the Blue Max will become one of the premier annual events on the contest calender.

We plan on inviting many of the authors and artists who are familiar names in the Great War era modelling community. There will be open flying (including a lake for float planes) in addition to the contest flying, onsite camping, food vendors, and an awards banquet following the competition.

Hope to see you there...................John Olson, Mike Celeskey, Ron Prestin

You need to get this up at RCU under scale and warbirds as almost nobody I know bothers with RCSB anymore due to Chilson'policies of charging and then charging again for old threads. I want to go but have questioned its viabillity due to sporadic and lack of info. BTW, even BUSA is questioning whether to go for the above reasons. The only reason they (and I) are hanging on is due to Dale's efforts at Dayton. I hope this is a succes but info really needs to be decemenated to a broader audience.

Wow David,

While I totally agree that John should post also on RCU about his event I find your comments interesting.

Obviously, it is useless to waste my time trying to explain to you what RCSB is all about as either you have not taken the time to read about the site or we have done something to you that has offended you. However I would like to know your source of information about BUSA pulling out from John's event because of RCSB or "sporatic info" as you stated in your post.

As far as the BLUE MAX event, and other events like it, we will continue to do anything we can to help him and his efforts (like ours) to promote this hobby and do POSITIVE things to encourage others to try scale building and flying, not going around spreading rumors because we don't like something or someone.

Best of luck to you in your flying!

I am sorry to have stated my thoughts in a careless and hurtful fashion towards RCSB in general and Mike Chilson in particular. It is just my opinion and I should have been more thoughtful in expressing it. Those that know me know that my bluntness is a charector flaw I possess. I have adressed Mike's other questions in a PM as they came from private conversations. Again, Sorry Mike for my lack of thought.

Dave

Blue Max update for fall, 2009:

On Friday 9 Oct 09 Mike Celeskey and John Olson participated in a very productive meeting with the Fantasy of Flight museum marketing staff, events coordinator, and the operations manager, who is also a registered AMA Contest Director . Within the next few weeks Blue Max will get the featured “top of the fold” spot on their website ( www.fantasyofflight.com ). We will shortly cross link our websites within each others so that Fantasy of Flight readers can be routed directly to the Blue Max website ( Home Page ) and vice versa. They have produced an attractive small marketing insert with an eye catching Blue Max logo to be inserted into various mailers, as well as to be handed out at the assorted events we attend ,such as Frank Tiano’s Monster Scale at the Lake Wales, FL airport at the end of this week. Steve Thomas, the importer of Xoar props, is planning on including the insert with all WW1 props sold.

Soon the Fantasy of Flight website will contain a downloadable registration form for either online or snail mail submission. The $40.00 entry fee can be paid online at the time of registration. Each registrant will be permitted one guest/pilot/pit crew with the entry fee. Fantasy of Flight is providing one of their large hangars for static judging and we will hold our awards banquet in their large meeting/banquet room adjacent to one of their display hangars. The contest flying will be conducted in sight of, but safely away from the expected crowd of museum goers and spectators out in the front of the main display hangar A separate large open field with an onsite lake will be available for open flying from Thursday through Saturday evening. Primitive camping will be located near this venue, as will be the vendors booths and food service. Many of the museum’s WW1 machines will be placed on display on the apron out in front of the museum and a VERY special midday flying show is being developed for possible production (think dogfight)!

It is exciting to see the level of enthusiasm that Fantasy of Flight has for making this one of the premier events on the annual contest calender. We have a joint interest in the success of Blue Max as it will be a huge attraction for their customer base of aviation enthusiasts, and the museum should be on the bucket list of every RC modeler.

We have an additional meeting scheduled with them in November to finalize the logistics and technical matters. ( sound system, flight line operation, etc.) and expect Ron Prestin to have significant input. Keep visiting this thread continued updating as we progress and/or to pose any questions you may have.

Get your flight routine in shape by practicing at The Southern Dawn Patrol at Hodges Hobbies field near Anderson GA in December!

We will soon be developing a pool of static and flight judges, so anyone with an interest in participating should contact any of the three of us by PM or email……………..Mike Celeskey, Ron Prestin, John Olson

Blue Max 2010

The Blue Max committee will hold a final meeting with the events staff at Fantasy of Flight this Friday morning, after which we will post an complete update. The last details are pretty well settled and soon their website (Fantasy of Flight, World's Greatest Aircraft Collection) will be updated to reflect the results of this meeting, with a registration form attached to the online Event Bulletin. A full outline of the Blue Max schedule and description of the included amenities is planned for the announcement. Our list of sponsors is growing and there has been a great response so far, so we anticipate a good crowd for a super event, stay tuned.............John

Blue Max 2010

The Blue Max team met with the events staff at Fantasy of Flight and finalized the layout and format of the bulletin and registration form. The graphics dept is applying the changes and will post them as soon as they are completed. Among the many details covered has been locating and arranging the two separate flying areas. The static display area will be situated in a large hangar. The daily schedule has been established and negotiations are ongoing for a group rate at nearby motels. The menu for the catered banquet will be BBQ with beans, cole slaw, and bread with a cash bar. Dry RV parking has been approved and the details will appear on the bulletin. Advertisements are soon to show up on the popular forums and we are working on a few videos which will feature the museum collection and their staff. The enthusiasm of the museum folks for hosting this first of it's kind event has been wonderful, they seem to be as excited about Blue Max as we are.

We are developing a list of people to work the flight lines and impound and still need several flight and/or static judges. If you or any of your clubmates have an interest in being a part of Blue Max please get in touch with me, Mike Celesky, or Ron Prestin by PM or email. Looking forward to seeing you there................John
