Over the Front Seminar October 15-17 - San Antonio
If you're in the San Antonio area, and want to come to the "Back to the Cradle" Seminar, don't be afraid. We'd love to have you attend. If you can't make Friday and Saturday, perhaps you can stop by for one of the days. Information on the attached file.
Presentations will include the forum's own Stephen Skinner on Frank Luke, Greg vanWyngarden and Lance Bronnenkants on Anthony Fokker's WWI aviation film footage, Jim Wilberg on Jean Navarre, Narayan Sengupta and Mike O'Neal on the rise of US Marine Aviation, and much more. Don't miss this one.

Return to the Cradle - Thursday Reception Mixer
Today I find myself for the first time in San Antonio, Texas for the 2009, Over the Front conference: "Return to the Cradle."
After getting checked into my hotel room I ventured down to the meeting area for the traditional meet-and-greet gathering. As expected I saw a lot of the usual suspects and some faces who were not familiar to me.
The bonus in the attendee folder was a copy of the Over the Front 2009 calendar. Yes, I know 2009 is just about over, but I have been kicking myself for not buying a copy of this at the beginning of the year. I have seen the image of Russell Smith's "Lowenhardt" all over the place this year and really like it. This particular image is on July and I am admiring it as I type.
I did confirm that the Over the Front web site has been down for a few days due to some logistical problems, but should be back up soon.
The final schedule of presentations looks good with a mixture of subjects of which I have some knowledge and others I know nothing about.
I will try to add put some high-lights here each day.

Mates,
If you are note here, you are missing a treat! Its my first and to say it in a meaningfully way, it is great to finally put people and faces together after so many years on the 'drome. Outstanding!!!!!!
If you ever get a chance to attend one of these meet-in-greets by all means give it a shot.
Like I said that this is my first and thought I should at least see some of these folks that have aided me in my research and pointed me in the right direction to find things - before I or they go west.
Having one heck of a good time.
Hope that some of the picks taken here end up either on the 'drome or in an OTF issue.

Unfortunately, I have two in college, so I cannot do everything I would like. So, I look forward to the reports from the Front.

Howdy Lloyd! Been fun... wish you were here. Went to the Pioneer Flight Museum today and they turned me into a big fan. Very low key, friendly, open atmosphere. Go anywhere and touch anything. They roll out the planes and fly them or start them up for you. Way cool. Will have a short video feature for you when I return. I'll post the link here when its done.
