Am carrying out research on our village war memorial for a Lt. J.H. GARDNER who was killed flying a Gotha from Cologne on 09.01.1919 as part of the terms of the armistice. Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of where to find further information of him, the aircraft or the circumstances of the crash.
Thanks
Stewart McLoughlin

Interesting site. Can anyone tell me where to find information about WWI pilots flying over enemy airfields to drop off the goggles, headgear, flowers, etc, out of respect for shot down enemy pilots? Or is this tradition a myth?

I found this site very interesting. I was researching Charles P. Porter of the 147th puruit squadron. I know he was awarded the DSC. And could account for 4 kills. I would like to find out more about this aviator.

Great site!!! I am interested in learning a bit more about Vizefeldwebel Sebastian Festner who flew with Jasta 11 and was shot down near Oppy, France on 25/4/1917. In particular, the details of his death, and whether he has a known grave. Any information would be very much appreciated - thanks.

Looking for Susan Jeffrey who posted here on Des Carter. Violetta Carter was my great-great aunt. We thought Des was an only child, and there were no other family members. Please contact me. My mother would be excited.
