Sandi Thuy GallowayCorinth, Texas

I am trying to reach Carsten Kopke at Arrowsoft Verlag who furnished the picture/info on Emil Thuy (WWI). Thuy was my maiden name and my Grandfather Frank (Franz)Thuy was from Germany. Since this is a very unusual last name (outside of Vietnam),I am interested to find out more about Emil. Many Thanks for any assistance.

"It was the time of the lone knights of the sky whose blood and tears signed the skies above the battlefields of WWI..." I discovered this web site sometime ago and I really like it very much.It consists of very useful information for the resarchers and aviation lovers.WW I opened a new era when the few of people knew the importance of the aircraft in the first years of 1900s.Just after the frist controlled flight of the FLYER I by Wright brothers on Dec. 17,1903 in Kitty Hawk NC-USA; that time's generals did never believe that the aircraft would be a dominant factor of the incoming war.
There're some unknown information about the Turkish Air Force. It was founded in 1911 and first aircraft were bought from the France and later from Germany and Austrian-Hungary.There were lots of Turkish pilots trained in France and Germany whose efforts were remarkable and gained success against the Alied aircraft in Mideast and in the air defence of Istanbul in 1918s when the British bombers attacked to the city. The Turkish aviators would soon serve in the War of Independence 1919-1922 in recon. missions with the limited aircraft numbers in the Turkish army of that time.
So please show such information also in this website for the viewers.Thank you.

Great site you've got here!
I'm a personal fan of Ernst Udet, and I found some cool stuf about him here.
All the aircraft are cool too!

My grandfather was in the 99 squadron. "A" Flight 2nd Lieut. W.G. Stevenson (temp capt.) he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and also I have a book "History Of 99 Squadron" March 1918-November 1918 and he is referred to often in the book. Why is he not mentioned on this site?

Great Website!

Could you give an honorable mention to Eugene Bullard? Although not an ace, he was the first Afro-American fighter pilot and fought for France during the war. He was also a friend of Nungesser.

He was born in Georgia, ran away from home and moved to France. He joined the Foreign Legion at the start of the war and then finished his pilot training and served with the Lafayette Escadrille. He got in some trouble and was transfered to the infantry and managed to surviv the war.

Between the wars he lived in Paris and worked as a professional boxer, musician and night club owner. He also served briefly with the resistance before going back to America.

My grandfather, George Passe, was in the war and was also the artist that painted the "Hat in the Ring" on Rickenbackers planes. I am visiting this site to learn more about the war and his participation.
