Australia Posts: 147 users gallery	This painting rendered in Gouache on paper depicts the Fokker triplane of German ace Werner Voss in his final action against seven SE5s of B Flight 56 Squadron RFC in September 1917. Just why Voss chose to stay and fight has never been made clear. Perhaps the skilful teamwork of the SE5s boxed him in or perhaps Voss thought that he could somehow still win the day. Just how hard he fought is evident in the fact that all seven of the SE5s were bullet-holed during the action. Not a bad achievement considering that the RFC pilots included James McCudden, the second-highest scoring English ace and that all seven SE5 fliers were seasoned veterans with some 85 kills between them. In the end, Voss was brought down by Lieutenant Rhys-Davids. The 20-year old Voss was the Imperial air-force's fourth-highest scoring ace and was one of thousands of German-Jews who were killed in action in the Great War. Of the seven RFC pilots, only three survived the war. To any users who wish to offer criticism, please be gentle, I am only an amateur and the only time I have to paint is on my occasional days off in-between working long-shifts as a male nurse in a busy hospital.

Pete- The engine spins at the same speed as the prop and would be a blur as well. All the struts on Voss' machine were light blue, including the landing gear struts. Nice composition.

Nice picture

Not a criticism but shouldn'tthe propellor of the pursuing SE5 be blurred as well as the cylinders on the DR1 engine.

Anyway super action.

There is an admendment that I must make to the description I wrote to the painting. I have recently found out that Voss wasn't a Jew, that was a myth started by some writer after the war. (Why- I don't know). In fact, Voss came from a Lutheran Family. Pete.
PS, Yes Shackleton, the propellor should be blurred along with the cylinders- my mistake!
