This painting rendered in Gouache on paper (2005) depicts the SE5 of Albert Ball pursuing an Albatross during the dogfight in May 1917 that ended in the RFC ace's death. The exact circumstances of his death are still un-certain with historians debating over whether he was actually shot down by either an enemy plane or by ground fire or if he became dis-orientated in thick cloud. Or simply that his aircraft suffered a mechanical or structural failure. Accounts differ but some claim that Lothar Von Richtofen was one of the participants in this action.
