Formed at Kelly Field in Texas, the 95th Aero Squadron headed overseas in September 1917 and began training at Issoudun on 16 November 1917. Soon to become a part of the 1st Pursuit Group, the squadron was posted to Villeneuve on 18 February 1918 where it suffered its first casualty with the death of Captain Miller on its very first mission over the lines.
