Hello Everyone. Regarding the stock kit, which version of the DVII does this represent? Late Fokker, Albatros, OAW or a hybrid? Thanks in advance. Regards, Bill.

P.S. Can you direct me to some dicussion groups that are more specifically oriented to kit construction?

Bill:
The Revell 1/72cd scale kit of the Fokker D.VII, H.71 reflects a late production OAW built Fok. D.VII in the serial range D.6300/18 on.

Bill,
Actually the Revell 1/72 is a regretable mess. Basically the kit is accurate in its measurements and outline. The problem is that the starboard engine cover panel is early Fokker but without the stubby protruding exhaust pipes. the Port side is a rather vague representation of the late Fokker pattern of louvers. That is the bad news.
The good news is that this problem has been addressed by Rosemont Hobby Shop. They have made really sharply detailed conversion kits consisting of a nose,Prop, guns and seat. The noses come in all four types of D VII. The early and late Fokker,Albatros Werke and Albatros O.A.W.
I bought all four (I think they are $7.95 ea.)and I can find no fault with any of them.
Check out their website or call and talk to Barry who is a very nice and knoweledgeable man. I believe they are listed in the Forums links. Failing that, go to Peter Leonards Escadrille site. It is listed there among a multitude of other interesting links.
Hope this helps,
Terry

While at that modeling site - look at the model galleries page and check out Matt's kits ! Fantastic work. Love the Otto Doppeldecker. It's a phenominal site - the model pics alone are worth it !

Terry Crisp:
If you are talking about the 1/72 scale Revell Fokker D.VII, you are mistaken, the cowlings represent the OAW built Fok.D.VII beginning with the D. 6300/18 series. If you remove the carburetor long access door on the upper left cowling panel you then have the Fok.D.VII in the D.7604 -7805/18 series. Remove the tall radiator filler pipe and replace it with the central radiator filler pipe you then have the D.4300-4449/18. At the time of it's release there was not anything better. If you are talking about the recent release in 1/28 scale then I agree , it is a piece irretrievable trash. There is absolutely nothing correct about it.

Thanks to all who replied. Yes WWIMP refered to is an excellent website and so it this one. I will check back often. I have been interested in the "fabrics" since I read that pamplet in the Dogfight game long ago. I subscribe to the major mags and went on the Galaxy Tours aerodrome tour back in 1998. Again thanks for the warm welcome, Bill.
