I vaguely remember listening to a radio play a long time ago(I think it was about the British Ace Maddon). In the play it implied that he was greatly influenced by events in Russia and was fighting so that Britain could become a similar socialist state.I wonder if anyone has heard of this and was it a very widespread feeling? Could it also of explained why such high losses were endured in some of the final battles of ww1 ?

A top French ace was Madon--no similar Brit name comes to mind.

The fighting continued because it continued. ("We're here because we're here because we're here because we're heeere"....continue ad nauseum!)
