Hi. I have just found (in online archives of The Times newspaper, UK), adverts for The Richards Hangar, apparently used by US and UK in WW1. My father always said that my grandfather had designed the first prefabricated building, an aircraft hangar. I took this with a pinch of salt until I discovered the advert. I have the advert saved as a pdf file, and I am going to try to get it onto a website. It features a drawn illustration of 'the Richards Airfield' (did they ever build a whole airfield out of these structures? or was it wishful thinking), plus a more close-up drawing of one of the hangars.
I would just be interested to know if any of these hangars are still standing. (I doubt it).
The hangar was also erected in Canada for one of the early cross-atlantic flights. My great-uncle's company was W Alban Richards & Co. Ltd.
