I totally cribbed the following list from a replica site, but it lists the differences between the Nieuport 17 and the SSW D.1 -- does it seem reasonable to y'all?

Lower the top wing.
Rear cabanes straight up and down.
Re-shaped Rudder (more rounded and cut off a bit on the bottom).
Slightly taller landing gear and larger diameter wheels.
Tail Skid modified
Foreword fuselage more rounded cross-section
Cowl cut off at bottom (like Nie11), flat on sides, "spider" frame work on front.
Spandau gun.
Louvers and small air scoops on forward fuselage.
Spinner
Larger Headrest
Dual Horizontal stabilizer braces

Stephen Lawson did a build of this for Model Aircraft Monthly awhile back. He sure can put you on the straight path with this.

I believe the upper wing has a straight "center section" instead of 2 wing halves that meet at the middle.

p.s. I'm building a semi-scale flying "model" of this currently... in 7/8 scale! :D
