Does anyone have or know where I could find an audio recording of WWI machine guns in use? More importantly than being a specific WWI weapon is something that has a rate of fire slow enough to sound convincing for a synchronized, aircraft mounted weapon.
Ideally I'm looking for a track that is suitable to be looped for a period of time.
Essentially like the MG sound in the background of the opening scene of "The Blue Max", minus the opening music playing in the background.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely
Edward

Perhaps the audio machine gun portion of this web page?

Thanks Gary,
I may be wrong, but that track seems to give a little more of the WWII feel to me.
Also, we're looking for something without aircraft or other background noise. We'll have real airplanes making real noise, but just want it to sound like they're also firing real guns.
Cheers

Dear Edward,
Are you in England?
Major Bapty allowed me to make a tape of a Lewis gun firing for pence. Had to acquire clearance in case of unsuitable political affiliations..... obviously blanks were used.

If you can beg, borrow or steal a copy of the WWI aerial war video/DVD 'Four Years Of Thunder' there are several instances of MG's being fired. And the distinctly slow rate of fire is very evident.

I would suggest Pour le Mérite (1938) directed by Karl Ritter.
you will recognise some of the scences as they usually end up in ww1 aviation documentries. I have a four minute clip of the dog fight scene including engines, MG's and all

Britace- Any idea where it would be possible to get a copy of the entire movie Pour le Merite? It features flying scenes featuring Fokker Dr.I 528/17 and I have never seen the film. Any help would be appreciated.

This film along with another from the thirties 'Fokker D III 88' are extremely difficult to obtain. They feature 2 Dr1 Triplanes built by Alfred Freidrich but both were destroyed by WW2 day bombers (Berlin Aviation Museum)
I only have the dogfight sequence

Britace- Thanks. Will have to keep hunting. Would love to find D III 88, as well. The two Dr.Is were real Fokker built aircraft and were overhauled by Alfred Friedrich, as you stated. Friedrich originally intended to build two replicas, but elected to use the two real aircraft instead. 528/17 was written off in a wreck by a Rechlin test pilot and the other aircraft on loan from Fokker was destroyed in WW-II, as you stated. Source The Fokker Triplane by Alex Imrie.
