In reading the book the German Army on the Somm 1914-1916 by Jack Sheldon there is an account by a Ltn Johannes Fischer of "Air Wing 8" , possibly FFA 8, from his book "Zwischen Wolken Und Granaten", of a German pilot being badly wounded in dogfight. No WIAs or KIAs are mentioned on this date or area in CGAS. From reading his account it appears to have taken place on the French sector. The FASWC has the following claims for this area on this date: N 26-1, C 46-2, N 62-1, N 69-1.

This book also mentions the book "Die Flieger Abteilung (A) 221 by Walter Von Koch.

Does anyone know who the WIA pilot was and who most likely shot him down? From reading the above account by Fischer it may have happened in the morning.

Finally, has anybody read either of the two books in German? I know there aren't a whole lot of German records from this period. They could be usefull.

Armand Pinsard was the pilot from N26 credited with a kill that day, his second of a eventual twenty-six. It doesn't appear to be too good a fit as the time given for his is 3:30 p.m. Type of aircraft downed not given. Location was Bus-Mesnil-en-Arrouaise. He was flying a Spad VII.

James, from the Deutschen Verlustlisten, there is a remote (and I emphasis remote) possibilty that this may have been Vzfw. Ludwig Himpe. The DVL provides no exact dates (they must be inferred by the known dates of those men KIA/KIC) and provides no units nor locations. So, a flat out guess. R.
