Hello,
I am looking for more information about this observer. I know, he was a CO of a Schusta/Schlasta in year 1918.
Anybody know this medal ? Is this the Knights Cross with Swords of the Royal Hohenzollern House Order ?
Who is this man ?
For any kind of help, thanks.

It could be, however, there were several orders like this (a cross with crosses swords). However, not that many were worn like this.

This might be the CO of Schlasta 8, Oblt. Kurt Messow.
I am looking for more information about this man.
For any kind of help, thanks.

Hello Buddecke;
I don't think his medal is the Knights Cross with Swords of the Royal Hohenzollern House Order. It looks more like the Crown Order with swords to me. And I think he is wearing it like this because he was recently awarded the medel when this photo was taken. (Too bad the photographer didn't move in a little closer)
This doesn't help identify him, but if someone was looking at a medal roll and didn't find a match, he might be under a different medal roll. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I'm certainly no medal expert, far from it. But if the photo is of Kurt Messow, he received the Knight's Cross of the Saxon Military St. Heinrich Order on 21Nov17. However, I wouldn't be able to identify this award if it jumped up and bit me. FWIW. R.

Rick,
see book "Schlachtflieger" page 232. This could be the man sitting in the middle. The same medal, the same face, or ?
But do you think the man is Kurt Messow ?
Thats the question !

The nose 'looks' right, the hair part is different. Conclusion: I do not know. R.

It could be the Saxon Military St. Heinrich Order, but that award has a crown on top of the maltese cross and the cross arms are not flat across at the ends. The cross arms cut in.
