Several times on the Forum there was a question if a list existed somewhere on the internet of the licensed French pilots till the ourbreak of the war with Germany (2 August 1914).
You can find this list here (http://www.past-to-present.com/vieillestiges.cfm). It covers a total of 1704 pilots, including for example Glenn Curtiss (No.2), Frits Koolhoven (No.290), Marie Marvingt (No.281).
Enjoy. Some pictures are included.

Thanks, Kees. I have that list-- now I am looking for somewhere on the web I can get a list of the US-licensed pilots before the War. Do you have anywhere you know of where that could be found? Doc

A couple of questions if I may. Of the 1751 licenced pilots, is it known how many were actively serving in the Aviation Militaire?
And does anyone have the number of pilots active by August 1914 for the German Air Force?

Hi Dave. Licensing or certification of pilots in the USA started relatively late. Glenn Curtiss received licence No.1 from the American Aero Club on 8th January 1911.
There is part of a list here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aero_Club_of_America).
A complete list is in Robie, William. For the greatest achievement : a history of the Aero Club of America and the National Aeronautic Association. Washington : Smithsonian Institution Press, ©1993. ISBN 1560981873. 378 p., [16] p. of plates : ill. ; 24 cm.
