Hi guys. After a year's break I'm back to playing some RB.

I cannot for the life of me get the game to recognize the joystick. Unlike most games, my version (actually an upgraded RBII) doesn't have a selection within the game itself to opt for a joystick.

My joystick - a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 - is properly loaded, calibrated and shows up in the Device Manager. I've tried both ports on the back of my puter, booting and rebooting and I've unplugged other game controllers.

I've boo-booed somewhere. Please help!

Hi Stephen,

I don't know if this might help but try to calibrate your joy-stick through RB. Start the game, go to properties, then to grafic setting and choose window-modus settings ( sorry don't know the exact therms - I have the german version ;) ). Then go and fly a "fly-now"-mission. After a right-click with your mouse you should be able to calibrate your joy-stick... After this is done switch back to glide or direct draw.

Perhaps this will work :-/

I don't think my version of the updated RBII has a "properties" area in it. I only have the main menu stuff on the left sidebar. I'll look again, but you may have to help me out. Thanks Immo.

Windows XP right ?

Try unplugging joy as you start game or manually select joy in controll panel assign which controller to be used with old games.

read xp work arounds link found in newbie post or check newbie web page for fixs

AHA! Got it! Thanks everyone... turns out that the joystick (WIN98) has to be listed as the number 1 component under game controllers... I had it listed as number 2. Now it works fine. Thanks again.
