IRA (TAFFY) JONES, 65, FAMED WAR FLIER, DIES

SWANSEA. Wales. Aug. 30—(AP). Ira (Taffy) Jones, famous airman of World War I who survived 28 crashes and was credited with 40 victories in air duels, died last night in a hospital. He was 65.
Death was due to injuries suffered in a fall from a ladder at his home six weeks ago.
One of his celebrated World War I exploits was chasing away a German bomber by attacking it in a plane armed with a Verey pistol used to fire signal flares. The flares frightened off the bomber.
Decorated many times, Jones tried at the age of 45 to get into the Air Force in World War II. At Windsor Castle King George VI told him:
"You are too old, Taffy. It's a young man's game."
