Hi all,
Has anyone built the Pegasus 1/72 DH4? How does it compare to the Airfix offering? I haven't built either, but I think the Pegasus one looks a little better -- in the photos, anyway.

Lufbery,
I have both in the stash. The Pegasus, is . . . .well it is a Pegasus kit, not a model for the kit-assembler crowd, such as myself. I hope to get my skills built up to put it together one day.

The Pegasus kit has 3 alternate fronts for different power plants {Rolls Royce, Liberty and RAF 3a) and is generally light years ahead of the Airfix kit in terms of accuracy and surface detail. Inside meeds more detail and the sides need thinning. There are both 2 and 4-blade props and decals for either an RFC aircraft or the first rolled-out American DH.4.
The Airfix kit was for decades probably the best wwi kit around, but by modern standards needs the wing ribs sanding off and replacing, there is no interior to speak off, the strut tie bars need removing and the trenches in the wing filling, and you can only build the one version. OTOH it builds well, being a mainstream kit. It was a good kit in it's day, but it's day was long ago, although it is good enough to provide a sound basis if you want to put in the work. However, if you want that much work and are used to limited run kits, the Pegasus kit is a far better starting point.
BTW, neither kit supply only the shorter type undercarriage.

Great stuff guys. Thanks for the reviews. Does anyone know if Part makes PE for either kit? I'm leaning toward the Pegasus kit, but would like to be able to add some good interior detail. I could scratch it, but some PE would help.

Drew,
AFAIK there's no specific detail set of any sort for either kit.
