I have, three hasegawa 1/8 museum (assembled) kits- sitting in a custom built, red oak 40" on the wall,83" tall unit- open cabinet, all three of these, havent been touched in years, but they are looked at all the time
the Sopwith and the Dr1 have 14k gold leaf'ed cowling, the Se5a is stock-green as I thought it was special enough as it was.
Everything works and is threaded correctly on all 3, just casue I could.
so, what are these worth BUILT??
I see them pushing 1k on ebay, each unbuilt-
I'm asking because there is a classified ad posted here for the sopwith and the Se5a and he's asking 15k? is this possible?? OMG
so, three in a cabinet could push 25k?
No way.. no freakin' way-

Greetings robotz991,
Welcome to the Aerodrome.
With a handle like "robotz991", I first thought that you might be one of the many Spammers that have joined our ranks this Summer, also we were attacked by "BOTS"!
That is why I dropped you a line on your personals. : )

They were an absolute pleasure to build... I thoguht the gold leafing was appropriate, not because of the subject, but because the kits are so damn nice.
Aluminum seemed so---ordinary.... hahaa :goggles:
Thanks, and Oh- I design robots and robotic assembly and test systems these days, but I also designed the robot used in the 1980's Universal studios movie... "Heartbeeps", with Bernadette Peters and Andy Kaufman..
Im not a spammer-bot

I am sure that classified is a miss-print. Most likely he's asking $1500.00 Which is Retail value for one of these kits IF you found one in a Store.
Ebay pricing and prices are Skewed. They are a Market place un-to themselves. They do not truely represent open market or collectors value although in some cases they come close. Ebay Buyers in general are looking for the "Dirt Cheap" Price regardless of the item. Almost a giant "Dollar Store" market place if you get my meaning. Not that things wont sell fo rbig money, heck they even auction cars and Real airplanes for goodness sake, howevr my personal feeling is the same K-Mart Steal Price mentality prevails.
That being said Un-Built Kits depending on Conditon and flavor of the month have run any where from $650-$850 on Evil Bay. Their true value is any where from $850-$1200 in my opinion. They are collector's item of their own right. Currently all are again out of production including I beleive the secound production run of the Fokker Dr.I
Your Kits having all ready been (Very Well) Built will have more appeal to the Admirer/WWI Buff Collector than modellers Per-se although some may be interested simply to save themselves the trouble and espense to build on themselves.
Your Real trouble is to Find the right buyer who is willing to purchase your collection. I would sugges teh following. Run a classified here, and as many other forum boards and of WWI site such as WWI Modelers Org and list it for "Sale" as well as lisitng on EVBay for a "Buy Now" Price rather than auction at Ebay for the Price you want.
Priceing is a personal matter you will have to work out on your own. Personally I would guess given the market value of the Kit and the high quality builds would be a percentage higher in value ? I would guess $1200 a piece ? Your problem is being patient enough to find that buyer with that kind of disposable income these days, especially in this WorldWide SLump ?
You might also do an Worldwide Aviation Museum Search. Contact each one's curators and send them an Offer package. They have the resources to spend that kind of cash as they will have apprasiers who will value them even higher for thier insurance purposes.
Yours Mike

Well, truth be told, I dont believe I'm planning on letting them go- but for the 8k this guy posted for one of them(?!)- assuming he gets it, I just might consider it as I've got my eye on a BMW 850, in red but of course.
I always had the thought that should the insane consideration ever cross my mind, the first place I would go is the 94th Aerosquadron in Van Nuys, Ca.
I think they would feel at home there.
For the forseeable future?.. they are staying right here, unless some fool wants to cough up 25k, then I'll be happy to let them go (as I have more in case of earthquake, and I'm pretty sure I can do a better job 15yrs later..)
See ya on the runway!!!
happy flying and thank you for the kind words.

That Ebay is the place alright.. Every once in a while I check the prices of the Pocher automobile kits ( these are the equal of the Hasegawa WW1 plane kits) Funny tie in also to the mention of the K MArt mentality.
Believe it or not K Mart, that's right K Mart, sold off a bunch of Pocher kits they had on hand. This was like the Mid 70's I think. I was able to buy about 6 of them for prices anywhere from $13.00 to $18.00. Have built one, sold off three some years back for over $200 and still have 2 I want to build someday. I see them on Ebay for over $300 and peole are buying them.

DavecWW1,
After your comment, I had to go back and take another look.
OMG, I'm glad I added tie-downs or these puppies would be gone!
(those are "pitdroids" in the seats...)
(off topic- a Type Vii Uboat, a 66" Nautilus submarine and a Paper model of the Heartbeeps robot- for your added enjoyment)

Wow! You ought to take some more pics of the Type VII U Boat and head over to subsim dot com and post them there. Those guys would go bonkers!

I ran around in the "subcommitte" while it was coming up and I'm pretty sure a bunch of pics are still there. The OTW line of subs are amazing "semi-kits", but not for the faint at heart.
if you would like, I could post one or two here, but it's the wrong war, so I'll ask for approval.....:work: :spandau: :lewis:

By the way, the rigging is "marks-alot", stained- light gauge fishing line, (made taught with the aid of a hairdryer... cool trick huh?)
more pics in the photo album..
and yea, the red and green LED's as well as the white on the rear of the tower are actually, LED's, that light up with a 9v... argh

Well - up I had a hard time beleiving some one believes these are worth tens of thousands as pieces of Art - completed, but you were right here is the Ad you were refering to.
The Aerodrome Classifieds - Hasegawa Museum Series Models - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds (http://www.theaerodrome.com/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/238/cat/2)
It would be interesting to speak with that guy and see if they sold and to whom ?
However, Thank you for sharing your photos. As modellers we cant ever get enough of seeing completed builds. Perhaps as a one off scratch built Model Art your Nautilus has a better chance of selling first for that kind of change ?
Meanwhile Enjoy your models for yourself for many more years to come.
Yours Mike.

Well it all depends on how much it cost the seller when he had them professionally built, since they are partially covered with painted numbers & insignia and have working pulleys and control stick it may have cost him this much to have them built, since that sounds like a lot of custom work done by a so called "professional" modeler so no telling how much they cost him in the beginning.
