Hi Guys,

New to the group but love what you are doing here. I am very fortunate to have a 7/8th Se5 based in the UK.

I am about to start the build of a Dr1 from the Redfern plans. I work in crazy parts of the world and I have the opportunity to buy 2 x Warner 145hp Scarabs and a 150hp Siemens. Everything is 0 timed but no paperwork which won't please the UK authorities but..

I need to buy all 3 or none, its a package deal thing. Any idea what these engines are worth??

Any clues much appreciate, glad to meet you all..

Simon

A Zero time 145 Scarab should fetch at least $17,000 but I'm not sure if the lack of papers should make that less. Probably should. At the moment I don't know about the Siemens. Will try to find out if I can. Redfern plans are ok though I think the machine ends up fairly heavy. Have you looked at plans by Ron Sands?

I heard that the two plans were virtually the same (..accusations of one person simply copying the others plus a few modifications). I also believe that Redfern / both sets of plans ARE the exact original DR1 plans - correct me if I'm wrong..

Thanks for your help on the engine values. The UK is very severe with documentation etc, even for experimental aircraft so I think we have to pay a premium for one with all the correct paperwork..

Thanks again..

I have had a set of Dr1 plans from Redfern. They are OK I guess. Ron Sands on the other hand did a much better job of it in my opinion. And then there is Achim ( you can find many post of his here). He has a set of plans that are compiled from original drawings. The only problem is that since it is original it uses the original engine too. He has a web page that you must see.

Do you know anything about where the Siemens engine came from ? What is the model number ? Or any of the Siemens history at all. I am interested in the Siemens history (WW-I), drawings, pictures or what have you.

Good luck with the engines.
