I'm building the Blue Max Dolphin and have reached the point where I need to start drilling holes for rigging. I've got the Datafile, but can't clearly locate the inboard flying wire attach points. The drawings and photos don't show exactly where these are. Also, I thought these should be double RAF wires, but they look to be single in all the photos. Not complaining. Single's easier. I've even looked at other modeler's Dolphins and there doesn't seem to be much consitancy among them. Any advice? Ideas?
Cheers,
Bud

Bud,
Check your home e-mail box. I've sent you some information on the Dolphin.I'm not certain it will help but thought it was worth a shot.
Regards,

Hello Bud,
No double flying wires; I think the strength of the two-bay wing cellule precluded the need for them.

Front inner flying wire attaches at the top of the rear u/c leg, passing through the lower wing upper surface a little out from the fuselage side, a bit like the Sopwith Pup arrangement.

Rear inner flying wire is a bit odd, in that it doesn't attach to the fuselage in line with the rear spar of the lower wing, but in line with the rear centre section strut, underneath the radiator, i.e. in line with the rear spar of the upper wing.

Don't forget the drag wires running from the hole in the engine cowling (the upper of the two on the port side) into the upper wing just inboard of the inner front inter-plane strut.

Think that's correct!

The front ones go through the wing in typical Sopwith style and fasten on lower longeron /rear u/c leg point. the rear ones go to lower longeron in line with end of plywood panel on fuse. sides---as nearly as I can make out.----but DEFINATELY to lower Longerons.

They DO look like single wires, and this is a puzzle......

sorry,
Dave.

Posted at the same time----and Rowan is right to mention the drag wire---which is not a RAFWIRE, but turnbuckled..

Here's a drawing I cobbled up to show what I mean, the wires in question are in red:

As Dave says, the drag wires were cables with turnbuckles at the fuselage end of the wire. The others were RAF wires - not that it really matters in 48th!

Rowan, once again you've come to the rescue! My wife thinks it's kind of strange that I have built a shrine to you. That's not wierd, is it? Very nice sketch you "cobbled up". Think I'll print it and add it to the shrine.
