Has anyone built this kit or does anyone know anything about it? Is it worth getting?

Thanks in advance,

James Sontag

Przemol.

Stunning work!

I have the kit and I bought the PART PE set, from MisterkitUSA, and the whole process with the rigging attachments scared me into leaving it on the shelf.

However, after seeing the build thread, i'm very tempted to get it down and take another wee look.

its a nice kit i have 2. one i will use the eduard pe and one the part pe. but you should see beeza and prezmols builds they did very exceptionaly nice work on theirs.i think the main problem is the motor wont fit in if it is fully assembled so you have to leave off a few parts from the top.

The engine and engine cowlings are certainly the only major drawback. I also have been intimidated by the rigging attachments. Mine has been ready for painting and mounting the wings for a couple of years:blink:

Better get at it !:D

It is pretty high on my list. Right after I finish a second unpleasantness German Fighter for a review, and my WNW albatros DV.

FYI: There is an Eduard PE Set for this kit as well. Not Near as indimidating as the PART Set and really not that much in the way of Dupilicated pieces. Both have a differnent area of concentration.

Mike:

Did you finish yours?

I remember you worked out how to do the funky attachments for the PART PE bits to the struts. Where you have to cut them up and add brass pins!

It looks very complicated. Can you post a pic of that bit if you have one?

The rigging attachment on the inboard struts are a little confusing and difficult to do, but with patience and a bit of fiddling it comes together quite well. This is what I did, not perfect in respect to the original photos but pretty close. The engine/engine cowl is the only main issue. I also made my own ailreon bellcranks, very easy to do but look a lot better than the kit supplied plastic parts.

I never understood why some museums display their stuff in such dark and dingy places that make pic taking a real challenge.Turn up the lights guys !

Awesome pics guys.

Thanks for posting them.

Between this thread and the other one, that's a pretty good reference for my build.

I'm actually planning an RFC version, so I have to add a Vickers gun to the upper wing.

I have Tomasz Gronczewski's book and it details all the differences between the manufacturer's versions, etc. Fantastic book.

I'm having trouble tracking down some roundels, however. I may need to make my own.

i thought rickenbachers spad was #12? i have the eduard set and as mike says it is a little less complicated than the part set. and there are things in it that arent in the part set and vice versa. so you could get the eduard to and use the left overs from both sets to detail a hobbycraft xiii or something. thats what i'm gonna do. i scratch built this awesome control panel for the hc xiii and have been seriously considering casting it, a few guys have asked for it.

Rickenbackers SPAD was a 13 and had the Number "1" as he was Squadron commander by that time. The insignia is the Hat in the Ring emblem. #12 was his Nieuport 28 flown earlier. IHTH,

I will add my thanks to Mike for posting the photo's, and Des for his detail shots. Wasn't Ray Brooks SpadXIII the subject matter for the original Aurora release?

I have seen a few places that do this and not only for aircraft , from what i was told they do that because the light damages and fades the cloth . i was in a civil war museum and all of there uniform displays were darkened they compare a uniform that was blasted with light for so many years and a uniform kept in the dark . the colors are so much clearer on the dark kept one .
