pre-WW1, but thought some would like it, taken by Jim Wilson at his private strip in South Carolina, as the Curtiss departed last Sunday morning for its new home at Jerry Yagen's place. Between three of us we flew the Pusher about 1,200 miles in 7 days, and didn't go anywhere on two of those days. Started out in Pensacola, where the 'plane had been all winter after the November airshow there, flew to Sun 'N' Fun at Lakeland, and then North to Virginia Beach, where it is now.

This great photo reminds me of the last time I was at Rhinebeck...the day JFK Jr went missing. The field is very similar.

This image is striking for on several levels.
First, the narrow field gives a fine visual perspective with vanishing point for grass and tree line leading the eye to the sun.
The vertical color graduation from sun-horizon to fade upward in sky lifts the view up a little toward the central object, the aeroplane. The ground mist adds an interesting dimension that balances interest between aircraft and ground.
It is really about silhouettes, not colors or objects but the distinction is subtle. The sun is colored but the rest of the image is really blacks and whites.
Lots of contrasts and the moodiness of early morning light effects.
Cool.

I just came back from Sun'n Fun where I saw it close up.
Had a nice chat with Bill King and his wife.
Wonderful plane!

Very nice Andrew!
I think that much OPEN cockpit flying would wear me out.

Willem, those are my parents. I heard that there was somebody from Holland named Willem around at Sun 'N' Fun and at Fantasy of Flight, but never did manage to run into you.
Koz, we have a motor home chase vehicle and three pilots, we take turns flying and driving, so you get one leg in the Curtiss, two in the motor home (which sometimes beats the Curtiss to the next airport). Otherwise it would be almost impossible to go a long distance.

Any chance for a high resolution version of the pic to use as PC wallpaper?

I think I've seen you flying a Pitcairn Autogyro at FOF? Right?
