Just curious if anyone plays the old board games? Such as "Richthofen's War" by Avalon Hill and "Aces High" by 3W?

I am actually working on a format to revise the "Richthofen's War" Aircraft Capabilities Chart as well as the introduction of several new aircraft types. This will include new scenarios and perhaps a new campaign game or two.

I've got the 'old school' games on the shelf (to which I'd add FITS) but don't pull them out. Admittedly, that's because I'm a minis guy ;) .
As to current boardgames, I do have/use 'Bloody April' as a scenario generator.

I am strictly a Wings of War/Wings of Glory player as I love the models & the simplicity of movement. The "devil" is in the strategy.:D

Busy looking melee there Baz. I also have Blue Max in my cupboard but it does not come out often. :)

I actually have been doing this for a few years and have a very upgraded version developed along the years. Simultaneous impulse movement and action, revised climbing/diving adapted to 25 meters increments (closer to reality of game turn)...and more.
RW was my very first, and one of my favorite (except for the 'YouGoIGo' format) wargames. I played hundreds of scenarios in an evolving campaign game since 1981.

:D One of the great things about Wings is that everyone moves simultaneously!;)

Just as a sample, i added here the pad for the BE-2 that I use in my current version of RW. I intended to have my full version ready before november this year, but it takes lots of time...
* the colored symbols are related to available manoeuvers by the aircraft either loaded or unloaded
* Max Altitude when loaded is changed
* Max climb data has been seriously searched for each aircraft (e.g. the BE-2 can climb a max of 75 meters per turn between 1025 to 2000 meters). These values are reduced by 25 meters when loaded.
* The little zeros after the Max Climb and Max Dive values are ticked off for each box of damage past the 50% bar...
I have modified rules for diving since it's done in an impulse system, a few other things handled differently...

Fight in the Skies/Dawn Patrol has a very active online version now, but many enclaves of players in the midwest especially, including Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee, Indianapolis.
I've played the old Dogfight game with my eleven year old nephew.
Have some of the others in boxes somewhere, but never really played them.
Fight in the Skies/Dawn Patrol has evolved a lot since the original publications. Many new planes and scenarios, as well as updated stats. The designer is still very active.

:) Gee I got them about 10 years ago now & cant remember where.
Might I suggest you visit <wingsofwar.org>
& pose a question about such items in the hobby section. I am sure someone will assist.
By the way they are of a lead/pewter like material
