Hello ,

Is there anyone on the forum who , in the future ,...would be seriously interested in considering an actually build of a "reproduction" * Pfalz DIII / IIIa , but also has the necessary skill and dedication to carry it through to completion .
( * near as is possible given current knowledge )

This does not mean those who simply wish to download a set of drawings , but are also interested in research also .

I have first to thank those people such as Greg and Rainer etc. for providing useful photos and information as they would come to light ,.......

However ,...as far as I know , I did find that there is only one other seriously interested & knowledgeable person on the forum who contributes much , and with whom we regularly ( privately email ) discuss serious structural research details with , concerning this DIII / IIIa machine ..

Any potential builder/s , does not necessarily mean that the projected machine would "have to use" an original Mercedes motor , (preferable) ,... but perhaps would use a reasonable substitute such a variety of Gipsy 6 or possibly a modern geared substitute .

Hi John,

I am very interested, if I ever get a workshop set up. I was out at one of the airfields today and there is a 5 acre property nearby which I have wanted to buy for some time which would be suitable. It's out of reach though unless I sell one of the other properties.

I have recently conducted some research on Pfalz Wickelrumpf construction techniques. I always thought that they used two layers of veneer glued together. A well known report indicates that it is two layers of three ply Birch. Ironically my Wickelrumpf sample has been damaged which allows me to confirm this is in fact the case. I took the sample to some reputable furniture restorers. They concurred, the sample clearly shows two layers of 3 ply Birch. I can buy it off the shelf in Sydney to the same specifications as used in the Pfalz factory. I have a few shipping containers but they do not offer a stable, moisture free ebvironment. I am reluctant to manufacture moulds unless and until I have a workshop with a much more stable environment.

Regards,

David.

John,
If you are thinking of doing something similiar to what Gary is doing ... I highly encourage it.

We are all getting long in the tooth and if something should happen to us, everything that you have to offer is lost.

Think of this as your online mentorship.
We would all benifit from your experince and knowledge base.

John: That would be an interesting project and I sincerely hope someone takes you up on your offer. If I didn't already have enough on my plate, I'd converse with you about it.

BTW..if someone wanted to get an idea on the work level to construct the skins, I can point you to three videos that contain some good visuals on build Duramold skins and a modern version of replicating the skins for a Lockheed Vega.
