I got to interview a former member of the Fighting Air Command who were based in Denton, Texas in the early 1980's. They purchased all of the remaining Blue Max Aviation aircraft in storage in Ireland. That included all three Fokker D.VII replicas, both Pfalz D.III replicas, a Stampe, a Caudron, and four of the 7/8-scale SE-5a fighters. During an Armistice Day celebration, he crashed one of the Fokker D.VII replicas during a take-off mishap. It never flew again and is now on static display at the Museum of Southern Aviation in Birmingham, Alabama with a fake engine and replacement wings. When the Fighting Air Command dissolved in the late 1980's everything was sold off. Another Fokker D.VII went to Javiar Arango (RIP) and was later sent to New Zealand where it flies today. And the one here went to the Stampe Museum.
