Forgive me.The obvious similarities between these books did not excite my synapses, even when I saw "Aces High".... which I hated. Am I mistaken? The other books in Derek Robinson's trilogy are in my library, falling apart from re-reading (his WW2 Battle of Britain book is exceptional, exploding what we have read of the human dynamics within a squadron - read about 74 squadron in 1940-41, you will see what I mean). But this first novel has a lot of similarities. I do not mean to denigrate the author because when I bought the first edition I was APPALLED by his represenation of a WW1 scout squadron. After years of reading I find almost all of the events he wrote of are either true or nearly accurate.
Also. Why has no-one made a movie of Faulkner's short stories? Other than the Sartoris brothers fly Camels and Dolphins. I realise that Faulkner was a pilot U/T wehen the war ended but his social and military experiences are surely worth more than the hagiographical "Flyboys" (the Black pilot Eugene Bullard -and yes, I know a lot about him) and the equally appalling. "Lafayette Escadrille"where the lead actor avoids love scenes with women. Thank god for the unintentionally accurate "Wings"....and even "Hells Angels".
Disect all these points and bring on your arguments. If your argument has two mentions of "possibly", ""probably" ot "must have" then you are disqualified from MY argument (i.e. the argument with me is not meant to reinforce what many of the recent contributors have decided that is established doctrine?
