Hi Guys,

I'm starting this thread to document some of my work on the Felixstowe F.2a as I get back into working on these flying boats. Over the last two days, I made this detailed center plane assembly, which I'll post here. Data isn't as complete for the F.2a as for its counterparts like the F.3 and F.5, but I'm working to fill in as many gaps as possible so that a more complete set of F.2a drawings might be available one day.

I'm also planning on building some full-scale Felixstowe parts, such as the mainplane ribs, sometime soon. Still working on acquiring more woodworking equipment.

I'll add to this when I have the time. More to come!

Kind Regards,
Ethan

Hi Guys,

Here are some photos showing the F.2a's wing root. I've included some real photos as well, but actual detailed images of the F.2a wing root are very hard to come by, and this is about the best I have, showing the underside of the ribs.

Thankfully, the F.2a's wing root blueprint does exist and was used to create this assembly. I'll be returning to this and adding the metal fittings that hold the 1-1/4" tube to the spars and some other small details. These photos should do a good job at illustrating what the wing root generally looked like, though.

One thing I found was that the original lightning holes shown in the drawing interfere with the tube. In this assembly, I shifted some of the lightning holes so that the tube would pass through without issue, as seen on the later F.3 and F.5.

Kind Regards,
Ethan

Great stuff Ethan ,

Bracings components often did not coincide with Lightening holes and the latter had to be altered to suit , further along the line from initial design drawings .
